Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE is to take on Everest, the world’s biggest mountain, in a bid to raise £3 million for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

In April and May 2008 Sir Ranulph, will be climbing the South Col route from Nepal first climbed in 1953 by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay.

Sir Ranulph's three man team includes Kenton Cool, who led Sir Ranulph up the Eiger for Marie Curie Cancer Care in March 2007; Kenton has previously summited Everest five times. The third team member is Dr Rob Casserley, a medic and high-altitude cameraman.

Mount Everest is Sir Ranulph's ultimate challenge and if successful, on reaching the summit the 'world's greatest living explorer' (Guinness Book of Records), now 64 years of age, will be the first man ever to cross both ice caps via both poles and to scale the world's highest mountain.

You can follow the progress of the team online at www.everestchallenge.org.uk
